A salty inland lake which is India’s largest lake. This lake is situated in the Sambhar Lake town of Jaipur. This lake is a central point between Jaipur and Ajmer. This lake is surrounded by Aravalli Hills on all sides. This lake gets its water from six rivers; these rivers are namely Mantha, Rupangarh, Khandela, Khari, Medtha and Samod. The catchment area of this lake is approximately 5700 sq meters. This lake is an extensive saline wetland. This lake straddles Nagaur, Jaipur district and border of Ajmer District. This lake has a dam built on it. The dam is built of sandstone. These waters are then used to farm salt after they have reached a certain level of concentration. The water is then left from the west of the dam to the east side of the dam into salt evaporation ponds by lifting the gates up.
