Govind Devji temple that is dedicated to Lord Krishna and his beloved Radha ji. This temple is built inside the city palace of Jaipur and the temple was built by the founder of Jaipur and the first ruler of Jaipur Raja Sawai Jai Singh II. He had got these idols from Mathura and this temple became a well known visited site for pilgrimage and the vaishnav community.

The murti is also called “Brijakrit” as it is said that this idol which is present in the temple was made by the great grandson of Krishna ji. He was 13 years old when he had drawn and carved the idol of Krishna ji after getting some insights about Krishna ji. The little boy had made three drawings of Lord Krishna.

When he showed the drawings to his grandmother, she said that the first image had legs like Krishna ji, in the second image the chest area of the image looked like that of Krishna ji and the third image had a face depicted exactly like that of Krishna ji. These three images have been named differently. The first image is named as “Madan Mohan ji”. The second image was named as “Gopinath ji” and the third image was named as “Govind Devji”.

It is said that these paintings had been destroyed over the years; so some 500 years ago Vaishnava Acharya Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu had asked one of his disciples to remove the buried idol of Krishna ji which was protected from the invaders. Upon removal of the idol, acharya ji wrote a whole book on Govinda bhasya, who also defeated and convinced the Ramanandis of Jaipur. Hence earning the title of “Vedanta Acharya” post winning the argument and debate battle. Therefore this Govind Devji Temple is considered sacred for the vaishnav community.
