The ancient Eklingji temple which is beautifully located in the laps of the Aravalli hills is dedicated to the destroyer of the universe “Lord Shiva”. He is considered as the kuldevta of the Mewar dynasty. It is said that the original idol and the main temple were destroyed by the Delhi mughal invaders. The Eklingji temple was built in the 8th century.
Rana Raimal is believed to have captured one of the invaders and asked for a ransom amount in order to set free the captured intruder. He used this money in restructuring the temple and replaced the broken idol with the present idol at the temple. The main idol of Eklingji at the Eklingji temple is a four faced idol made out of black marble. They say that the four faced Shiva idol is the highest form of Lord Shiva.
This temple is 22 kms away from Udaipur to the north. This temple is home to 108 shrines. Each of these shrines are decorated differently with stunning carvings and sculptures. The architecture of the temple is simply very stunning and made up of marble and sandstones.
