Ghoomar Festival is celebrated every year in Rajasthan during the month of November. This year, after the initiatives of our deputy CM Diya Kumari, the Rajasthan government will be organising the Ghoomar Utsav, 2025 on 19th November, Saturday at all seven divisional headquarters across the state. Ghoomar Utsav is celebrated to raise awareness about the royal traditional dance folk of Rajasthan.

According to the tourism commissioner, Rukmani Riyad, the Ghoomar dance is an integral part of Rajasthani culture and tradition. This Ghoomar festival is organised to enhance and popularise this rich cultural identity amongst the young generation and the general public, along with the tourists who visit Rajasthan. This event is organised especially for women of Rajasthan; girls, young girls and women over the age of 12 are allowed to take part in this event.
There is a competition also taking place in this Ghoomar Festival. You can participate in the competition in a group of a minimum of 15 members or 25 members at the most. School and college students, dance school members, housewives, working women, self-help groups, NGOs and other registered clubs can participate in this competition. There are help desks set up at the divisional tourism offices to assist with the organisation of the events. There are various prizes associated with the Ghoomar festival. The prizes are for the following categories: Best Group Dance, Best Group Costume, Best Group Jewellery, and Best Group Choreography. The group winning the best group dance from each division will be invited to perform at major tourism festivals.
There are seven cities where this event will take place. These cities are Ajmer, Udaipur, Kota, Jaipur, Jodhpur, Bharaptur and Bikaner. To participate in the ghoomar festival, there will be links shared by the tourism department on their website and social media pages.
What is Ghoomar?
Ghoomar is the traditional dance folk culture of Rajasthan. It originated from the Bhil tribe of Rajasthan and is performed by the ladies of Rajasthan. This dance form is performed in circular motions, and the ladies performing this dance are dressed in beautiful, colourful and vibrant flowy lehengas and choli. Ghoomar is performed by the ladies on the occasion of Diwali, Holi, weddings, cultural meetups, etc. It is also said that when a newly married girl returns to her marital house, she performs Ghoomar.
