In the Indian Premier League (IPL), Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and MS Dhoni all played on the same day for the first time in two seasons. Is it going to occur again? Never know. We should experience the Sunday via the perspectives of the three legends.
The season’s first reversal match took place on Sunday between the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Punjab Kings (PBKS). Later, the second back-and-forth encounter between the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Mumbai Indians (MI) took place.
On both occasions, the side that lost the prior match won. RCB easily defeated Punjab Kings by seven wickets. With 26 balls remaining, the Mumbai Indians crushed CSK by nine wickets.
Virat Kohli enters history books
Virat Kohli’s unbeaten 73 in the IPL set a new record for his 67th fifty-plus score while chasing Punjab Kings’ 157/6. Devdutt Padikkal, a Bengaluru lad, relieved Kohli of some of the burden with an aggressive 61 off 35 balls that included four sixes.
Suyash Sharma (2/26) and Krunal Pandya (2/25) were the two spinners that sucked the wind out of Punjab Kings, providing the foundation for RCB’s victory. Shreyas Iyer, the skipper of the Punjab Kings, was easily dismissed for six runs by Krunal Pandya, who also made a fantastic catch.
Virat Kohli is presently ranked fourth in the Orange Cap race with 322 runs after his fifty.
What’s next for RCB in IPL 2025?
At the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, Kohli scored just 30 runs in three innings despite having four fifties in five away games this season. On April 24, when RCB plays the Rajasthan Royals at home, he will want to correct that record.
Rohit Sharma returns to form
Rohit Sharma had only scored 82 runs in his last six innings going into the match against CSK. With 76 not out off 45 balls, the former captain of the Mumbai Indians stormed back to form. Rohit was in the zone right away as the strain on him increased. He hit six sixes by taking his time and focussing on the proper spots.
Additionally, he rose to become the second-highest run scorer in IPL history. Rohit helped the Mumbai Indians win their third straight game by forming an undefeated 114-run partnership with Suryakumar Yadav for the second wicket.
List of top run-getters in IPL
- Virat Kohli – 8326 runs
- Rohit Sharma – 6786 runs
- Shikhar Dhawan – 6769 runs
- David Warner – 6565 runs
- Suresh Raina – 5528 runs
At the other end, Suryakumar’s brilliant performance was almost eclipsed by Rohit’s fame. The sweep shot was flawlessly owned by the Indian T20I skipper (68 not out off 30 balls) against the left-arm spinners Noor Ahmad and Ravindra Jadeja of CSK. He scored 24 runs from 11 balls against Jadeja and 26 runs from 11 balls against Noor.
Rohit Sharma likely to lead India in England after both he and Virat Kohli get A+ contracts
As the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) revealed the contracts for the 2024–25 season, Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Jasprit Bumrah, and Ravindra Jadeja were all kept as A+ Grade players. After missing the previous list, Shreyas Iyer (Grade B) and Ishan Kishan (C) return. The declaration is the clearest sign yet that Rohit will lead the team for the five-Test series, which begins in England in June.
Nineteen of the 34 players that received central contracts are in the C grade. Even though they retired from the T20I format following India’s World Cup victory in June, Rohit, Kohli, and Jadeja have been retained in the top division. Along with players like Rishabh Pant and Shubman Gill, Mohammed Shami, who hasn’t played a Test since 2023, and Mohammed Siraj, who was just demoted from the white-ball team, are in the A Grade.
Shreyas was a contentious exclusion from the previous roster, supposedly due to his failure to show up for a domestic game. Due to problems off the pitch, Kishan also missed out. Both are now back in the game, and Shreyas is having a great IPL season thus far.
