prabhas patan museum post

The city or the destination that is famous for its Shiv temple has another hidden gem in its vicinity and that hidden gem is “The Prabhas Patan Museum”. This prachin museum is a testament to the rich history and culture of Gujarat and India. It is also a bright example of the excellence of the Indian artisans who have structured and constructed such a beautiful museum that is famous for its architecture too. This Prabhas Patan Museum is located approximately 300 mtrs from the main attraction and that is the Somnath Temple. This museum is situated in the middle of the bustling market streets and offers a unique glimpse into the region’s past.

A Glimpse into History of Prabhas Patan Museum

The past folklore of the Museum states that the Prabhas Patan Museum was built to preserve and showcase idols and artifacts that will help in narrating the historic glorifying past of Somnath and its temple. They say amongst the few representations at the museum, there are idols of ganesh ji, parvati ma, vishnu ji and even of lord Surya.

They say that the museum also has a collection of different types of river water. Some of the water samples that have been put on display are that of rivers from Tanzania and also from New Zealand.

The collection at the museum has always been about the carved stones and the fragments that have been salvaged from the earlier reconstruction of the actual Somnath temple. Many of these representations have been put out in the open inside the premises of the Prabhas Patan Museum which showcases the history of the Somnath Temple.

The most outstanding exhibit of the Prabhas Patan Museum is the reconstructed 12th century form of the actual temple. The intricately carved ceilings of the temple that are made during the reconstruction of the temple add on to the architectural brilliance of the museum and of that era. Apart from these, there are different spiritual paintings, sculptures and inscriptions that reflect light on the artistic talent of the ancient craftsmen.
