Shubman Gill, the captain of the Gujarat Titans, was ecstatic and attributed his club’s impressive start to the season—four victories in five games—to a team effort in which everyone pitched in. Sai Sudharsan‘s elegant fifty and a team bowling effort helped Gujarat Titans defeat Rajasthan Royals by 58 runs in their IPL match here on Wednesday.
After being summoned to bat, GT amassed 217 for 6 before bowling RR out for 159 in 19.2 overs to win the game.
“Good total posted. It was difficult; the first three overs with fours were nibbling. Jos and Sai batted really well. At the post-match presentation, Gill stated, “We’d take 220 any day.”
Everyone is contributing, which is a sign of a successful team. It’s a good problem to have if you’re having trouble deciding who will be your man of the match. And that’s been our defining characteristic as a group—everyone pitches in and helps out,” he continued.
Gill praised his bowlers for making his work easy and expressed satisfaction with their performance thus far.
“Very happy. Having bowlers like us makes captaincy simple, especially given the form that everyone of our bowlers is in. “Anyone I bring in is just eager to contribute and take wickets,” he remarked.
When asked if the elders are controlling him, the gifted hitter responded, “Everyone is very nice.” Gill, 25, is one of the youngest players on the GT club. Everyone is really kind, and we have Ishi bhai (Ishant Sharma), who has played 100 Test matches for us.
However, RR skipper Sanju Samson lamented that his team’s bowling allowed a further 15 to 20 runs. “They carried out something different from what we had intended. Tomorrow, we’ll have to examine it,” Samson, who scored 41 off of 28 balls, stated.
“We lost wickets when we needed momentum.” Shimron Hetmyer’s character Hettie kept getting sixes and fours. However, we lost the game because I lost my wicket.
Jofra got off to a strong start and took out Shubman. Then we deviated from our strategy.
He responded, “When you lose games, we also feel should we have chased?” when asked why he decided to bowl after winning the toss earlier in the day. What else ought we to have done? But we want to be a team that wins games while chasing, not just win batting first.”
Sai Sudharsan’s consistency has started drawing attention around the league, according to another highlight from the same evening. Once considered a backup, the youthful left-hander is now a mainstay in GT’s starting lineup. In addition to being graceful, his 63 off 38 balls was tactically savvy, picking up speed exactly when the team needed it. Experts now view him as a viable candidate for India’s future T20 plans due to his versatility, ability to vary his strike, and great finishing performance.
In the meantime, RR’s middle-order problems persisted, particularly during intense chases. Sanju Samson and Hetmyer’s late pyrotechnics gave the Royals a promising start, but they were unable to form alliances when it counted. Jos Buttler’s lack of consistency this season and Devdutt Padikkal’s lack of form have put pressure on RR’s coaching staff to rearrange their batting order before their next match.
Social media fan discussions over GT’s dominant form grew more heated in the days after the game.
Cricket commentators said that GT has a significant advantage this season due to their balance in both bowling and batting.
Sanju Samson’s choices as captain were also questioned, particularly his bowling rotations and toss strategy.
Both teams will want to recover more strongly in their next games as the campaign heats up.
