Pushar Mela is one of the most famous fairs for the trading of livestock and camels. This mela gets footfall from locals, domestic and international tourists. The major attraction of this mela is the trade of livestock like horses, camels and buffaloes. One such major attraction of the Pushkar Mela, 2025, was Anmol. Anmol was a buffalo from Sirsa, Haryana and belonged to the Murrah breed, which is especially found in the Haryana region only.
Anmol: The buffalo

This Murrah buffalo is an exceptional breed found in the Rohtak, Sirsa and Jind areas of Haryana. This breed is known for the production of dairy products on a large scale and is also known for its looks. Anmol was also known for producing 18-20 litres of milk at the start of lactation.
Anmol was a buffalo that was 1500 kgs and 8 years old when it died at Pushkar. It was 5ft and 8 inches tall. The care that the buffalo received was nothing less than five-star because they were given the best care and best diet to maintain their body temperatures and make them useful.
The care Anmol was given by its owner
Anmol was given immense care and a special diet to maintain its build and value in the livestock market. The care and diet that it received are as follows:
- Anmol was a jet-black coat buffalo; therefore, it was given a bath 2 times a day with massages done using almond oils and mustard oil to maintain the shine of the coat.
- Anmol followed a lavish diet where it was fed 250 gms of almonds (badam), 4 kgs of pomegranates, 30 bananas, 5 litres of milk and 20 eggs daily. Apart from this, its supplementary feed is oil cake, green fodder, ghee, soybeans and corn to maintain its stamina and its massive build.
- The Murrah buffaloes are categorised by having a jet black coat, distinctive tail markings and short, tightly curved horns.
- Anmol was given regular medical attention and veterinary checks because of the high metabolic mechanisms and weight-related issues due to massive weight gain and height.
The Economic Value and Purpose of Anmol
- At the Pushkar Fair, Anmol was priced at INR 23 Crores because of the massive built, look and usage.
- Anmol’s breed is used for high-intensity dairy farming. Anmol itself could produce 18-20 litres of milk per day at just the beginning of the lactating time.
- The Murrah breed is known as an expensive breed because of the above feature, and is well taken care of.
- Anmol was highly priced not just because of its size, use and looks. It was priced highly because its semen was extracted twice weekly, and each extraction was priced at INR 250/-, which means INR 4-5 lakhs income for the farm monthly.
The circumstances or reasons that led to Anmol’s death
Various reasons led to the death of Anmol; it is said that it’s health might have been affected because of the physical stress of transporting from Haryana to Pushkar. As soon as Anmol’s health deteriorated at the Pushakr fair, the veterinarians were informed, and they came in to give immediate treatment; however, the treatment did not work because of the heavy weight and build of the buffalo. It is said that death can be a result of unnecessary hormonal injections to show massive build, or because of excessive overeating. All of these reasons do not have any substantial proof to claim the death of the buffalo.
