Early Life and Background
On December 13, 1997, Yash Dayal was born in Allahabad, Uttar Pradesh. His father, Chandrapal Dayal, was a former university-level cricket player who played for Allahabad University and was employed by the Indian Railways, therefore cricket was in his blood. Yash’s early enthusiasm in the sport was greatly influenced by his father.
Yash had remarkable talent as a left-arm pacer at an early age. In junior cricket, his sheer speed and swing, together with his cool demeanour, helped him stand out. In Uttar Pradesh, he received expert coaching and advanced through the age-group cricket divisions.
He ultimately earned a position in the senior domestic squad of Uttar Pradesh by completing his studies while juggling intense cricket training.
Domestic Career
In the 2018–19 Ranji Trophy, Yash Dayal made his first-class debut for Uttar Pradesh, and in the 2018–19 Vijay Hazare Trophy, he made his List A debut. His ability to bowl for extended periods of time and get movement off the pitch immediately made an impression.
During the 2019–20 Ranji season, he continuously plagued hitters with his fast swing and seam movement, which made his performance particularly noteworthy. Yash was regarded as one of the circuit’s most promising left-arm pacers and established himself as a mainstay in UP’s home squad across all forms.
He was able to demonstrate his abilities on the largest T20 platform when he joined the IPL thanks to his steady domestic results.
IPL Career
At the 2022 IPL auction, the Gujarat Titans paid ₹3.2 crore to acquire Yash Dayal. He made his debut in GT’s first season and was an important part of the bowling attack as a left-arm pace option. He made significant strides during the powerplay and took 11 wickets in 9 IPL 2022 games.
But in a historic match in the 2023 Indian Premier League, Rinku Singh struck Yash for five straight sixes, which was a career-defining moment. Despite the setback, his resilience and hard work were widely praised, and he returned mentally stronger.
He was purchased by the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the IPL 2024 auction, when he once again made an impression with improved control and efficiency. He remains a key T20 asset due to his ability to bowl in the last overs and with the new ball.
International Career
Even though Yash Dayal hasn’t made his Indian national team debut as of 2025, selectors are still keeping an eye on him, particularly in white-ball events. His left-arm speed adds diversity to India’s fast-bowling lineup, and a national call-up is soon to be expected given his increasing maturity in both the domestic and IPL arenas.
Legends and pundits have praised his efforts in both domestic and IPL cricket, seeing him as an investment for India in the long run, especially in ODIs and T20Is.
Playing Style
A traditional left-arm fast-medium bowler, Yash Dayal depends on swing, accuracy, and astute variety. He has been focussing on adding slower deliveries, yorkers, and bouncers to his repertoire because he is quite good with the new ball, especially in favourable circumstances.
He’s hard to score off because of his natural seam location and fluid run-up. He is developing as a death-over specialist and is particularly successful in powerplay overs.
Yash is predominantly a bowler, although he has shown promise as a useful lower-order left-hander and can even bat down the order when needed.
Personal Life
Off the pitch, Yash Dayal maintains a quiet profile and is renowned for his grounded and controlled demeanour. His father is still his greatest supporter and mentor in his cricketing career, and he hails from a close-knit family. Throughout his career, his mother, a housewife, has been a source of emotional support.
In order to fully concentrate on his job, Yash has not disclosed any romances to the public and is not yet married. He is quiet, reflective, and very focused, and he has a close relationship with both his coaches and teammates.
When Yash is not playing, he likes to travel, hang out with friends, and watch films. He follows a rigorous training and recuperation schedule because he is a fitness fanatic. He has gained the admiration of both fans and peers for his simplicity and modesty.
When time permits, he also takes part in grassroots cricket development programs and mentors young cricket players in his area.
Legacy and Future Prospects
Yash Dayal is still a young player in Indian cricket, but he has already established himself as a reliable and promising left-arm pacer. His resilience in the face of hardship, especially following the Rinku Singh incident in 2023, shown his mental toughness and dedication to development.
Being an uncommon left-arm bowling option in Indian speed bowling, he adds much-needed variation to the system and is probably going to play a big role in India’s white-ball strategies in the years to come. A place in the national team appears achievable with more reliable performances in the IPL and domestic competitions.
His path thus far is encouraging—evidence that a player can overcome even the most difficult situations with tenacity, solid foundations, and fortitude. In terms of Indian fast bowling’s future, Yash Dayal is undoubtedly a name to keep an eye on.
